Northeast Portland’s Roseway neighborhood used to be a hidden gem, but in the past couple of years people have discovered it. It is bordered by Rose City Park, Beaumont Wilshire, Cully, Sumner and Madison South. Because of it’s proximity to Fremont and 57th, the neighborhood has good access to all the shops and restaurants on Fremont and the Hollywood areas. It is now very popular among young families, and there are also alot of older empty nesters and senior citizens. It is a good place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and have easy access to grocery stores and other things that you find in a suburb. It also has good transit with lots of buses going by on the main roads, and you aren’t too far from the MAX lightrail.
It is basically a safe neighborhood. People take good care of their homes, there are lots of gardens and the yards are kept up. Alot of people walk and bike, just like the other inner city neighborhoods.
Most of the houses here are very modest and affordable if you compare to other close in neighborhoods. The neighborhood has lots of character and charm, more than half were built before 1950, and there aren’t very many new houses. Some of the homes, being from the early 1900s, almost have a storybook charm and the whole neighborhood has a real pride of ownership. Some people choose Roseway because it is so close in to Fremont and Hollywood and is an inner city neighborhood, others choose it because it almost feels like a little suburb.
There is a Safeway close by, Roseway Theatre, which is from yesteryear and has been restored into a quaint fun place to go keeping it’s art deco style but completely upgraded into a 21st century theater. There are other shops and restaurants that are actually in the neighborhood on Sandy or close by.
Parks in Roseway Neighborhood

- Glenhaven park offers sports fields, playgrounds, picnic areas, and a skate park.
- Wellington Park has a brand new playground and soccer field plus lighted paths for walkers, joggers, and bikers.
Rose City Golf Course is on the edge of the neighborhood, just to the south of Roseway.
